Sharm El Sheikh is a resort town spread along bays at the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula. Naama Bay is the lively centre, with a promenade of shops and restaurants, while Sharks Bay and Nabq are quieter.

The reefs are the main draw. Ras Mohammed National Park and the Strait of Tiran have some of the Red Sea's best known dive and snorkel sites, and many hotels have their own house reef.

Days are warm all year and the sea stays swimmable through the British winter. St Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai make a memorable trip inland.
